I have fond memories of lace tablecloths and lace doilies strewn around our home as well in both set of grandparents homes as I was growing up.  It gave a touch of elegance and no doubt it was also a means to protect the wood underneath. Well it did in our family, as it couldn’t have been easy for my mom with eight children. Being we are all just one or two years apart in age you can perhaps imagine what a house full of children running around could be like.  Just writing these words gives me an overwhelming admiration and respect for my mom.
