Lesson 35

Snapshot_002 (4)

I love small things like this mirror in Second Life and thought it was the perfect item to remind myself to do what this very lesson imparts.

Reminds self to remind self to remind self…. to post it!  🙂

Lesson 35: Put It On Paper!

Incomplete actions take up space in our awareness. When we retain information or unfinished to-dos in our minds rather than on a calendar or scheduling system, we become easily distracted from the truly important tasks.

If you’ve been feeling confused, unfocused, or scattered, this weekly assignment will give you some much-needed peace of mind. Just think: What else could you be dreaming, planning, and creating if your mind were relieved of all the details it’s been holding?

Your Self-Love Assignment

This is the week to put everything you’ve been holding in your head onto paper. Use the following questions to trigger your memory.

  • Are there appointments you need to make? The dentist? The accountant? The gardener? The hairdresser?
  • Are there phone calls or e-mails you need to return?
  • What other forms of communication do you need to deliver? Do you have birthday cards or thank-you notes to send?
  • Are there scraps of paper or sticky notes bearing useful information all over your home and car?
  • Are there items to be returned or bills to be paid?

After you’ve captured on paper everything that needs to get done, assign a specific date by which each item will be complete.

Self-Love Points Earned

Give yourself 50 points for each task you take out of your mind and put into your schedule.

Lesson 32

 Snapshot_005

I have been experiencing a little insomnia the last few days and found myself reading to try and wear myself out just before bedtime.  I have never really had any problem once my head hits the pillows as it only takes me less than 15 minutes to settle down and drift off.   It’s driving me a little stir crazy since I am returning to work next week  and I need to get my body realigned to a normal schedule.

One of the books I found myself reading is from one of my favorite all time authors, Dr. Seuss.  My appreciation for his works is evident if you ever took a peek into my book case, which hold books that I hold dear and close to my heart for the hours of enjoyment they’ve brought into my life.   While I have come to enjoy the lifestyle of being an e-book reader, there are books that I still like to hold in the palm of my hand and turn the pages as the story unfolds.

Dr. Seuss, well known for his children’s stories did write a couple of adult books, and the one that I like to pull out and read for a bit of laughter is the “The Seven Lady Godivas.”  A story of seven Godiva sisters that never wear clothes, who as a tribute to their father’s fate (flung from a horse to his death), agree never to marry until they can alert their countrymen all about the dangers of horses.  Dr. Seuss writes the story with his well known style of humor unabashedly, as he reveals the origins of horse proverbs most of us have probably heard of.

To that end I decided to do a little horse play, plus I wanted to show off these boots that I absolutely love from the POE6 Hunt, which ends in a few days.

Lesson 32: Have Some Fun!

Believe it or not, most adults need to be reminded to take time out for fun. Trained as we are to get things done, we often devalue or neglect this most important aspect of life. But doing things just for the sake of our own enjoyment recharges and rejuvenates us. Having fun is actually a necessary activity that feeds and nourishes us at the deepest level. Have some fun this week, and enjoy the benefits it produces in virtually every other aspect of your life.

Your Self-Love Assignment
This is fun week! Your assignment is to make a list of ten activities that you’d do on a regular basis if your life were dedicated to having fun. Then schedule at least one of those activities into your week.

Enjoy yourself!

When everyone else was taking naps or sneaking off into a quiet corner during the down time from all the family activities yesterday I came online for my own moment of quietness and tried doing a bit of clean up of my inventory.

That was the original intention, though somehow ended up going into a store and buying a new skin.   I’m sure that I’ve mentioned before that I’ve only worn one skin outside of my original noob state and one other skin given to me by a stranger during the first few days of joining.   Sometimes and it’s very rare that I will use other skins for pictures and only if it doesn’t drastically change my appearance.

I also never tweak my facial features and I did with the use of this skin and there is a smidgen of change, which I might be able to live with.  I’m not sure that I’m ready to make a complete change to a new skin as I still like my current skin very much.  Maybe a short trial run to see how it resonates with me.

Test 1

While I am prone to headaches and on those rare occasions get some headaches that turn into migraines I typically never have them last more than a day or get them every other day as the case has been here lately.

Not the best way to enjoy the holiday season and I’ve had to miss a couple of holiday parties as a result, since the effects for me after a migraine is feeling tired and disoriented.

In any case I am thankful for the things I do have even in the midst of this mild distraction, like my family and friends and the time to gather and create memories.  It is those moments that we renew our love for one another and share our faith, joy and hope for each other.

I hope that you are experiencing something similar during the Christmas holiday.

Paradise Lost in Second Life to open Spring 2014

Coming this Spring! I was thrilled with the Romeo & Juliet production and can’t wait to see this production of the story of Adam and Eve’s Original Sin.

Paradise Lost Teaser Poster 1 FINAL

Raised a Roman Catholic, vivid images of the first man and woman wandering blissfully around the Garden of Eden are indelibly seared into my brain. I can see them now in their naked innocence, two obedient children in adult bodies, under the watchful eye of their all-seeing yet invisible father.

And of course, this vision is inexorably coupled by an image of the same two figures, now tragically cowering in shame as they hide behind trees and bushes, quivering under the castigation of an unforgiving God, sorrowfully losing everything as a result of their one and only disobedient act.

While they might seem hopelessly dated, quaint and even ridiculous to many of us, these stories remain important and baked into over half of humankind’s narrative code.

They have inspired poets, musicians, artists and architects to create some of the greatest works of ancient and modern civilisation. They have fuelled our quarrels…

Zodiac Meme

~ ARIES ~

Independent – Generous – Optimistic – Enthusiastic – Courageous

Moody – Short tempered – Self-involved – Impulsive – Impatient

This week Strawberry has an interesting meme, which deals with the Zodiac and your thoughts surrounding it.    As always, the instructions are provided for those who would like to participate.   Part of this week’s challenge is for you to create a picture that related or had something to do with your Zodiac sign.   I’m wearing a necklace that represents my sign.

Meme instructions: Copy and paste the following questions and answers into your post; then delete my answers and input your own. Don’t forget to leave a comment below with a link to your post so we can all come by and check it out!

  • What is your birthday and/or Zodiac sign? – I’m an Aries, being born on April 1st.   Yes, I get the fool jokes each year and I LOVE my birthday day.  😛
  • Do you believe in or follow astrology? – Yes, I do believe in astrology.  No, I do not follow it.  I have a very good friend who is an astrologer, who has provided me with wonderful advice over the years based on transits in my astrological chart that have helped me grow in understanding some of my impulses, desires and motivations.  I tend to view the information like other information you might receive and process and then up to you on how or whether you use the information.   Astrology can guide you, though should not be a total basis for decision making.
  • Do you feel your sign’s attributes reflect who you are? – There are attributes that fit me very well and others that don’t.   Though as one blogger highlighted and having learned from my friend, it’s not as simple as just what your sun sign is.  There are other things involved, such as the time and place of your birth.
  • Have you ever been to a psychic or astrologer either in RL or in SL (are there any in SL?) As mentioned, my friend has provided me with an astrological chart.   I have no idea on the Second Life part of the question.
  • Do you read your horoscope daily and try to follow any advice, recommendations or warnings it may have for you that day? No.  On occasion they have been the fun topic of discussion on a Sunday morning when my siblings are gathered for an all family breakfast and someone has the newspaper out and they  come across the horoscopes and read everyone’s horoscope for the day.  Especially, when we have quite a mix of signs in our family, it’s a barrel of laughs when you find something amusing to poke fun at.
  • Do you have very strong feelings about astrology, either negative or positive?  No, I don’t have any strong feelings about it either way.  I think this is a personal choice and you have a right to what you think or believe.  It’s when you run judgment or try to impart your view on others, that you have to start to draw the line.  Personally, I’m always open to hear people’s views on any subject, whether it’s positive or negative.  I think it’s the worst thing to be closed minded about things that you have no real knowledge of.

Cinco De Mayo

Today in some areas of Mexico and here in America, Cinco De Mayo, is celebrated as an important victory for the Mexican Army over the occupying French Army.  The victory became known as the Battle of Puebla, which took place on May 5, 1862 near the city of Puebla, Mexico.   This Mexican holiday is often confused with Mexican Independence Day, which is September 16th, that celebrates Mexico’s freedom from Colonial Spain.

Snapshot_058

For those of Mexican descent it is a day to be proud.  For others it is a popular holiday to celebrate, as it involves having a fiesta with Mexican food and drinking coronas.

In honor of the holiday I thought that wearing my charro costume would be fitting.

Charro is considered a traditional horseman from Mexico, specifically in the central-western regions of the country and not the same as a typical cowboy or rancher.  The charro costume also became more popular when it became the common outfit for people who sing Mariachi music. This is a type of folk music from Mexico, where men and women play string instruments.

The particular costume dress I am wearing is called “Cielito Lindo,” which translates “Lovely Sweet One” and is a very popular song from Mexico that is played by many Mariachi bands.  I have very fond memories of this song, as my father sang it when I was growing up.

So happy Cinco De Mayo everyone!
