Summer Picnic

There is a new round of goodies at FaMESHed and one of the delightful things you can find there is this Arlette picnic set from Aria.  It has so many wonderful and fun animations for a single avatar or for couples in the blanket along with several texture options.   The set also comes with several decorative items that make the setup totally complete for you to have a great time.  The basket and flowers also comes with several texture choices.  All the items are materials ready and are copy and mod.

I love a good thunderstorm and lately we’ve been getting some rain showers, though it wrecks havoc on plans and sometimes my lights go out.   In any case, it would be my thing to sit out like this in my screened in patio and play on my iPad, while listening to the rain.

This outdoor sitting set is from Aria and is currently available at this round of FaMESHed.  The set includes a sofa, which has single and couple animations with rezzable items and also give-able props.  The arm chair and the coffee table also include several animations with props.  Several choices of texture change for the cushions as well as the wicker and wood of each piece.  The plant also gives you the option of changing the color of the pot.

Nikka Living

Aria 11

ARIA is participating in this month’s round of Collabor88 with its very own inspired coastal set named “Nikka.”   The set as shown here includes the sofa, table, rug, wall art and the decor items on the table.  It has one of my favorite features as previously mentioned, which is the texture change of materials and in this case the sofa, throw, cushions and the rug.

Time to Relax…

Just what the doctor ordered!  A deep tissue massage.  Aria has released the Thalassa massage table along with some decor items for you to have just that.

The massage table comes in either a PG or an adult version, with lots of animations and the ability to change the texture of the wood and the leather.

Here is a close up of the oils, towels and hot stones, which are incredibly realistic.  Other towels shown on the first picture. The land impact for all these items is fairly low.  You can find the massage table at this month’s round of The Men’s Department.

I have been out of town the last several days at a business meeting and it’s been a long time since I’ve used a laptop to get into Second Life.  It works fine in all honesty.  Though I just don’t find it easy to maneuver around and much less trying to put together a scene for blogging.   It’s great if I’m just sitting or standing and chatting.

I’m glad to be home and able to use my desktop to put together this lovely furniture setting by Aria that was released at The Garden this month.   The complete set features the beautiful cut dining room table and sideboard that comes in three different wood textures.  You get four variations of the dining chair, that comes in PG or adult, and many color textures to choose from for the chair and the cushion.

The whole set is materials enabled and has copy and modify permissions and the remaining set includes the vases, which are enlarged, pendant lights and flowers on the pictured on the table, which also gives you color choices.   Not part of the set, but still from Aria are the new curtains named Verna, which are available at the main store.  You can choose colors by clicking on them, which pops up the menu to change the fabric texture or the metal.   I did modify them to fit the windows.

I am still working on improving my use of light in Second Life.  If anyone has any great tutorials, point me in the right direction.

Shattered

I found this shattered man statue at an animated texture shop.  It seemed like it would make a great decor item for the house, even if the space I have him in now is a bit tight for his outstretched arms. I’m breaking in the new mini furniture set that Aria released for this month’s FaMESHed event that consists of the sofa, table and vase with poppies.  I love the details on the sofa and kept going between the three colors and finally settled on this grey.  I must say that I really like when you can buy an item that gives you choices in the wood and fabric textures.  Personally, I am more inclined to spend lindens on an item like this for a set price than for an item with one color choice for the same price.  I also really like that some designers are allowing you to buy items individually.   I don’t always want the whole set, but would love to have a particular accessory that comes with the set.

This cool jacket that I’m wearing is a group gift from .Shi.  It comes with a HUD to change the jacket color and comes with a fabric necklace.  The necklace took me a little time to fit almost right, but the hair covered the bit of imperfection, which is the necklace going through the jacket.  I believe this will vary by avatar and mine is a little bigger than normal.

Lesson 36

I may be redundant when I say the following.  It just feels like I’ve spoken this before or maybe I just thought these things and never wrote on them.

Normally, I talk about real life events when I do these lessons.  I primarily started doing the lessons for personal growth.  Since I am and interact the same in both worlds, obviously with a bit more care and on occasion maybe daring to do things I wouldn’t even consider in real life, Second Life would be part of that growth.  Though not doing much or interacting with that many people these days in-world it does limit my ability to utilize examples that could pertain to these lessons.

Today’s lesson brings to mind something that I have observed when it comes to liking or disliking things on Flickr or on blogs.  Being a blogger who likes to take pictures it’s only natural that I would like to shop.   One of the ways I have stayed in touch with what is newly released is by perusing blogs and Flickr.  Since I am talking about Flickr I will take time to mention that I don’t make it a practice to favorite too many fashion pictures as there are far too many that I like that it would clog my favorites.  Generally, I stick to liking landscapes, furniture pictures because it helps me remember things I own as well and recently I started to favorite pictures of things I want to go look for once released.   Mainly, I like favoring pictures that tell a story.   You’ve heard that statement that a picture is worth a thousand words.   For a great example, I recently liked several photos of Harvey Crabsticks as they were a sequence and telling a story.  I love that sort of thing.

To my observation.  I have noticed that many people will like a picture of yours just because you liked one of theirs.  I simply don’t understand that.   I rather you like my picture because you really do like it, other than liking it because I happened to like one of yours.   I do believe that sometimes we will go and look at someone’s work when we note they liked one of ours.  I have done this, and will like something I might have not seen.  Flickr pictures are being uploaded continuously by members you follow that there is bound to be pictures that you will miss.  That being said I still see this soft token of “people-pleasing” in observance.  The same thing applies to blogs.

In short. It’s not a big deal.  Like to your hearts content.  Just an observation.

Lesson 36:  Please Yourself

People-pleasing is one of the great epidemics of our times. I know so many people who can’t seem to find the time or energy to nurture their own dreams or bring their goals to fruition. Could it be that people-pleasing is the silent culprit behind their exhaustion and over committed schedules?

Many of us learned early on that pleasing others is a good way to receive validation or affection. And now it’s become a habit that we perpetuate even though it doesn’t serve us or our visions. This week, take your focus off of pleasing others, and instead look for ways to please yourself.

Your Self-Love Assignment

Reflect on one area of your life where you feel resentful, powerless, or resigned. Allow yourself to see how many of your actions in this part of your life are driven by your need to please others. What lengths do you go to in an attempt to get others to like you? Do you pretend to be the “nice” guy or girl? Do you conceal some of your brilliance or hide some of your power so that you won’t intimidate others?

Next, ask yourself if your quest to be liked and please others has actually paid off. Is it bringing you what you want?

Allow yourself to see what would be available to you if your first commitment were to please yourself. How would that affect your sense of worthiness, joy, and self-love?

Finally, identify three actions you could take this week that would be pleasing to you … and take them.
