We were having another cold spell where temperatures dropped into the chilly 30 plus degrees last night and it made me sort of lazy to jump into Second Life even though it was my 6th Rez Day. Instead I snuggled under covers and read.  This meant I didn’t take any photos to blog and then when I attempted to log in today I found that they were doing maintenance so login was disabled for some.

In short, I finally made it in-world to put this scene together, process the photos and mark down credits, which I am leaving you to peruse as it’s close to dinner time.

Something a little different today. I am featuring poses by [evoLove], which are available now at the ongoing round of Genre. Gave me a good reason to get into a bikini too!

I do want to point out that this bikini that I am wearing is not made to fit the Maitreya body.  I had to make a body adjustment so that the fabric wasn’t hanging or going into my skin too much, though afterwards looked good enough to wear.

The head I am wearing is a new static head by Catwa, which is relatively inexpensive for $100 lindens.  It comes as is without any expressions and no updates will be made available. You will have to buy a skin applier for both the head and body, which will raise your cost eventually. I’m not making changes to my regular head, but thought it be useful for blogging.  I was fortunate to have a skin from some hunt and saved it just for this kind of purpose and I just worked with the skin sliders on the maitreya hud to get a close match.

Last Christmas

As I was going through the poses on this chair, which are a few for activities and sleep I settled on this one as it sort of fit my contemplative mood.  Gazing at the beautiful tree I thought of how different my last Christmas is to this year.  I don’t bemoan material things as those have never been that important to me.  No, I grieve the loss of people that were in my life then who no longer are.

For some reason I think this could be my last Christmas in Second Life.  I don’t know what the future brings obviously, it’s just more or less a thought that funneled through my mind right now.  On January 8th, I will have been in Second Life for 5 years, which in my book is a pretty long time.

That day is also very significant.  It was the same date of January 8th two years ago, that I also met someone who came to be a very important part of my life.  I miss that period in my life, where everyday was more carefree and not as heavy.  I miss him too.  My Christmas wish for him is always that he find peace, happiness and joy.

I’m thankful for many things, but today I’m just thankful for even the cool weather that has me shivering from cold.

This round of 21Shoe is proving to have some fabulous sexy shoes.  I’m wearing one of the shoes that *YS&YS* has made for this round, called the Monaco Suede Ivory.  It’s a gorgeous heel that is made to be worn with SLink high feet, Maitreya Lara body or the Belleza Venus high feet.  I’m not showing the second pair as part of the two-for-one, but the shoe is the same in a glossy fuchsia color.  You can check it out on the 21Shoe website and also see the other amazing shoes that will be available on March 21st at the individual stores.  All landmarks to the stores can be found on the website as well.  Joining the in-world group is free right now, though come April 1st there will be a fee to join.

I don’t know about the rest of you, but this week so far has been down and out crazy. I feel pulled in every direction and the frustration level that I see in others and myself too is at an all-time high. It feels like all I’ve done since Monday is put out fires, and today I have a headache that won’t quit.  It’s no wonder we escape sometimes, even if our realities remain.

By now I’m sure you’ve seen these star of fame wall frames with different awards such as best friend, wife, hag, husband, boyfriend, girlfriend, designer and a whole list of others found at the arcade. They are very cute frames and can create that fun atmosphere as they’re meant to, when proudly displayed or given as gifts to that person you’re honoring with that title of being the best of something.

I’m proudly showing off my fame as best girlfriend, and even though I gave it to myself it doesn’t lessen its impact. Darn right.  I earned this title; just ask my ex (spoken tongue-in-cheek).

Funny note aside I had a bit of a revelation the other week when I was watching the movie Jerry Maguire that aired in 1996. Jerry is played by actor Tom Cruise, which is about a sports agent that gets fired and then starts his own management firm with a sole client, Rod Tidwell, played by actor Cuba Gooding, Jr. There is a particular scene where a frustrated Jerry is telling Rod, who has a bit of an attitude, that he needs to go back to being the guy who first started playing the game, like when he was kid. The conversation doesn’t go well and an irritated Jerry leaves and as Rod watches him go he yells at him, “See, man, that’s the difference between us. You think we’re fighting, I think we’re finally talking!”

That particular scene was a bit of an eye opener as I thought back on previous encounters and made me reflect that I’m more like a Jerry and how this might have contributed to communication breakdowns.  It’s given me something to ponder on as I think of how quickly I can shut down when overwhelmed with high emotions.

My goodness.  Maybe I should send my ex the best boyfriend award.

Odds stacked against me

I really enjoyed creating this scene and when I was done it reminded me a little of the cabin that my family rented several years ago in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee to spend one of our Christmas holidays.   The long tall windows that gave way to the spectacular panoramic views to the Great Smoky Mountains.  The open floor plan that had leather and hide furniture just like these chairs and sofa from Scarlet Creative and a massive fireplace in the living room.

It makes me sigh and long for another vacation like that one where life seemed less complicated and much easier.  I probably wouldn’t select Christmas week as the time to go as trying to drive in the heart of town was pretty much bumper to bumper traffic.  That’s never fun.  Personally, part of the the whole beauty of renting a cabin in the mountains is being able to seclude yourselves without the need to go anywhere that wasn’t within walking distance.   It’s a home away from home. You have to be mindful of the wild animals that you could run into if you do take a walk… like black bears and foxes.  Plus you have to be comfortable driving up an incline, because that was probably the most tedious part of leaving and returning to the cabin.   The steep narrow road we had to travel on had all sorts of twists and turns and could be quite scary, especially if there was ice.

The Men’s Department was a bit different this time around with lots of fun stuff being gacha items like the beer bottle Christmas tree and the poker setup.  I did modify some of the poker items by unlinking them for placement.

My winter dream.

I was short on time this morning, and was only able to post on Flickr before having to rush off for a morning meeting.  I have about fifteen minutes before I have to rush off again to meet a friend for lunch.  I figured that in that time I can get this done.  This is my first snow scene in Second Life all the while it’s only relatively cool with weather in the mid sixties today here in my real world as I type this.  It’s a small cold front we’re having as our normal weather is usually high seventies or low eighties.

When I thought of doing something snowy with the Christmas feel I thought of Norman Rockwell scenes.  I have always loved his work of portraying American life through his paintings.   I have been in Florida most of my life with only small stints of living in other parts of the US like a year in California and another year in Washington state.  The latter being where I experienced snow probably for the first time that I can remember when I was like seven years old.  Outside of that I have seen snow only on a few other occasions like in upstate New York while on a business trip and a family vacation in the mountains of Tennessee.

This would be my ideal snow scene.
