Fabulous Sin City

Sin City USA

Doing my inventory used to be a time of  stillness where I could do a mindless activity and let those thoughts in my mind reach a place of oblivion.  I haven’t been able to get into that place in the longest of time so my inventory is in chaos once again.   My cleaning habit lately consists of basically dumping all those purchases into a folder and labeling it by whatever day I happen to think it needs a bit of cleaning.

Needing Rehab

Usually when I’m groaning at having to scroll down a bunch of folders looking for something.   It’s probably a good thing I only blog for my own amusement and not trying to get something done on schedule.   Though I like to think it is nice to find things in my inventory that I’ve never worn and it’s like getting something new at the candy store all over again.

Lesson 31

“We are all wonderful, beautiful wrecks.  That’s what connects us — that we’re all broken, all beautifully imperfect.” ~ Emilio Estevez

Snapshot_004

There was a time that I was a bit more of a perfectionist than I am today.  I would like to think that I now strive for excellence instead, which is by far much more motivating and gives me greater satisfaction inwardly. Trying to be perfect, in my opinion, is one of those impossible to attain standards that we often burden ourselves with.   Being the perfect woman, man, mom, father, brother, sister, co-worker, boss, blogger and countless other perfect ideals.  I certainly can recall times when I’ve compared myself with others in an effort to fit in, looking for some kind of validation so that I would feel perfectly alright with myself.   It never happened until I let go of those built up expectations that I created in my own mind.

I’m sure you’ve heard countless times the statement made, “…and I thought they lived the perfect life” and it is those individuals that are often seen as perfect and many try to emulate who end up being some of the most messed up people.  That’s because there are many people and yes, me included, of looking like we have everything together.  I don’t and they don’t either.

Perhaps if people stopped comparing themselves to others and instead were real and encouraged others by sharing themselves and the experiences they go through they would help lift up peoples spirits and really convey the message that they are perfect in being the imperfect human they are.  What a happier people we would be.

I leave you with this… would there even be a second life if we were all perfect beings… living in a perfect real world?

Lesson 31:  Love Your Imperfections

I‘m sure you’ve noticed by now that humans are imperfect. We make mistakes; we’re works in progress. And while most of us strive endlessly to make ourselves perfect, I’ve yet to meet a human being without flaws.

To the degree that we’re able to love and accept ourselves in spite of our imperfections, we’ll be able to extend this love and acceptance to others. And the more we love ourselves and others, the more easily we’ll manifest the things we desire most in life.

Self-acceptance is the most generous gift we can offer ourselves.

Your Self-Love Assignment

This week, make a list of all the things you’ve disliked, resisted, or judged the most about yourself.

As you read over your list, pause before each item and say to yourself, “I’m worthy of my own love and acceptance, even though I _________.” For example: “I’m worthy of my own love and acceptance even though I’m 25 pounds overweight”; “I’m worthy of my own love and acceptance even though I don’t have a job”; “I ‘m worthy of my own love and acceptance even though I feel lonely.”

Read your list each day, pausing after each statement to breathe in your words, then move to the next item on your list.

Self-Love Points Earned

Give yourself 50 points for every imperfection that you surround in love.

Lesson 16

Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.” ~ Rabindranath Tagore

In the midst of a storm

When I read this week’s lesson my thoughts were, “ohhh so true”, and I really can’t wait to actually do the assignment.  It might not look good at the end when you recognize those choices you made that created situations in your life that were frustrating and caused you anxiety and stress.  They may even pinpoint self forming destructive patterns in our lives.   Right off the bat I can think of several choices I made over the last year that were done out of fear.  So this lesson really speaks to me this week.

Lesson 16: The Power of Choice

Most of us have lost sight of the relationship between our choices, our actions, and the outcomes we experience. But our lives as they exist right now are the result of every choice we’ve made up to this point. The choices we make – today, tomorrow, and every day this year – will either keep us stuck repeating the patterns of our past or they’ll move us powerfully toward the best year of our lives.

By becoming responsible for the choices we make, we take our destiny into our own hands.

Your Self-Love Assignment

Reflect on an area of your life where you’d like to create a different result.  Write down exactly what you would like to change in this area.

Now make a list of all the choices you’ve made in the past 12 months that were in direct opposition to the fulfillment of this desire. Allow yourself to see the choices you made that disempowered you, that came from a place of fear, and that were unconscious or self-sabotaging.

Finally, identify two choices you can make this week that will move you closer to the result you desire.

Self-Love Points Earned

Give yourself 50 points for every choice you make that leads you in the direction of your goals.

I’ll Tell You a Riddle…

“You’re waiting for a train, a train that will take you far away. You know where you hope this train will take you, but you don’t know for sure. But it doesn’t matter. How can it not matter to you where that train will take you?”  This quote was from the movie, “Inception”, aired in 2010.

Snapshot_004

Lately I have felt like I’ve been in a mode of waiting and quite literally I am waiting for things to happen that I have no control over.  I could probably write a whole chapter or even a book ranting about what I’m having to wait for, approval on this or that, such and such to get back to me, etc. You get the drift.

Today I was in a bit of  a funky mood and it really started the previous night.   You know that feeling of not able to really focus on anything, more than a thread of restlessness.  So I opted to have an early night and sleep claimed me almost immediately.  This morning I felt the same effects of gloominess and was quite tired by midday even if I had not really expended any energy, doing much of nothing in all reality.

Then while waiting on someone I was rummaging through my purse when I saw the book that had been given to me as a gift.  I had not paid much attention when I had opened the envelope, but had laid it aside and then later stuffed inside my handbag.  So I pulled it out and read the title, “use ALL the Crayons“, and then read the back of the book to see what it was about.

The author speaks of how he likes to consult with a five-year-old anytime he needs a reminder as to what is important in life.  Further down, he describes like a box of crayons, we are all born with an astounding range of color options, and making every day as vivacious as the brightest crayon in the box.  The book doesn’t profess to make you happy, though it guides you to find simple ideas for living a more colorful life.

Flipping through a few pages I read one idea that had me giggling and thought hmm it has potential. The idea of super-gluing a quarter to the sidewalk outside of a busy downtown office building, then packing a lunch and spending the noon hour watching frustrated executives try to pick the quarter up.  Now tell me that wouldn’t be funny?   I then thought of how high the humidity is where I live at and it’s not likely to happen.  Maybe come winter.

In the space of reading those few pages my spirit was uplifted and I had a brighter outlook.   There will be times in life when you’re in a mode of waiting, so you might as well color your world with the brightest of crayons.
