Just showing another ideal winter scene, even though I would wager shoveling snow doesn’t look this easy. I can’t say that my memory stretches far back to this age as a child to what I might have been like waiting for Christmas to arrive. Though considering that I’m known to be a little impatient at times (smirks a little) it is likely that this would probably have been me waiting and thinking… when are you going to get here Santa!

My winter dream.

I was short on time this morning, and was only able to post on Flickr before having to rush off for a morning meeting. I have about fifteen minutes before I have to rush off again to meet a friend for lunch. I figured that in that time I can get this done. This is my first snow scene in Second Life all the while it’s only relatively cool with weather in the mid sixties today here in my real world as I type this. It’s a small cold front we’re having as our normal weather is usually high seventies or low eighties.

When I thought of doing something snowy with the Christmas feel I thought of Norman Rockwell scenes. I have always loved his work of portraying American life through his paintings. I have been in Florida most of my life with only small stints of living in other parts of the US like a year in California and another year in Washington state. The latter being where I experienced snow probably for the first time that I can remember when I was like seven years old. Outside of that I have seen snow only on a few other occasions like in upstate New York while on a business trip and a family vacation in the mountains of Tennessee.

This would be my ideal snow scene.

The light during winter.

If the Arcade alone was not like a candy overload on its own. It’s now a new month and that means many events are opening. FaMESHed started on the 1st and [ARIA] is offering the “Trieste” bed, which is available as a PG and Adult version and comes with three preset colors for the bedding. It can sit up to two avatars and several animations that gives you rezzable/auto attachable props to make the experience enjoyable. I always love the clear and clean textures and the details of the items that [ARIA] creates. It always gives me that feeling of home.

Another event that is now open is The Men’s Department and [ARIA] has made the Emmanuel Winter Chic Gacha Set for this event. The chaise lounge has single and couple animations that also have rezzable/auto props. As always a few color choices for you to choose from. There are six textures for the cushions, throw and accent cushions. The rest of the set includes the snowflake decorative cushions by the bed, table with table top trees and the hanging snowflakes. These items are transfer and modify and materials ready.

Choices.

As I was looking at this picture and thinking of the choices of food before me. It lead me to thinking of how we make choices in all areas of our life from food, to what we wear and to the people we allow in our lives. Obviously, some decisions are easier than others and usually the harder ones are when your mind and heart wage a war between what you want and don’t want. These days I find myself contemplating the needs versus wants and readjusting my way of thinking in some areas. Ultimately, maybe reminding ourselves of what we deserve helps put things in perspective to be able to choose wisely.

That’s just one complexity of life.

Here in Second Life one of the choices if we’re so inclined to play the gachas is choosing to take a chance on the item we want and when to stop playing before we spend lots of lindens. Of course, I’m giving myself a pep talk as the Fantasy Gacha opens today. 🙂

As I sit here thinking about my title. It sort of rings true that Second Life is really like starring in your own movie that you direct. You get to create your own character and direct the story to a certain extent. When I first started I remember teasing it was like starring in my own animated Disney movie and playing dress up. As you can see I have just as much fun dressing up my child alt as I do dressing up my adult avatar.

Even though today I’m just goofing. It was fun putting together these cute “Inside the Story” items from 8f8 that are available at the Dreamers Factory event until the 22nd of August.

I couldn’t help and use this quote, because it perfectly fits these pictures of goofing off while in the office and by rights, totally wrong if it’s against office policy. Perhaps your experience is different to mine. I don’t know of too many companies that allow you to take the phone off the hook, sit back and recline to watch a movie on the computer and my favorite of all… to have a buttocks planter?

I wouldn’t advice anyone to indulge in the activities above — unless you want to take a forced week off. Smiles.

Lesson 40

I used to love visiting small bookstores that were cozy, intimate and with an atmosphere of being somewhat quaint. You could say it was something I indulged in frequently, because it was a place that I found tremendously relaxing and could spend hours just reading in a softly lit corner somewhere. Unfortunately, it is hard to find any of these types of bookstores around anymore. At least not where I live. The only time I get to indulge in a setting like this is when I go visit a friend of mine that lives in one of the Carolina states. She has a small sun room that has bookshelves built in and large windows. I just love sitting there with the sun streaming in and reading a book.

I think her sun room is calling my name.

Lesson 40: Indulge

What are some ways to really indulge? How about languishing extra long in bed on a rainy Sunday morning; skipping the nonfat, no-carb cookie and treating yourself to a hot fudge sundae; buying yourself flowers and sprinkling some of the petals on your bed and pillow; bringing your favorite novel and a cool drink with you into the bathtub so you can luxuriate in the soothing water; getting lost for hours window-shopping or browsing through a bookstore; and planning a day that’s all about you.

These are examples of healthy indulgence. Discipline and structure are essential components for creating the best year of your life, but they need to be balanced with moments of luxury. This is your week to indulge!

Imagine that your favorite person in the whole world is coming to visit you this week. This person has been working hard and is looking forward to some serious relaxation time. Imagine that the two of you have the same tastes, and it’s your job to plan at least three things you can do to ensure that your friend gets the most out of your time together. Write down three indulgent activities that you would like to share with your friend.

Now read over your list, because this is your self-love assignment for the week. Choose at least two of these activities and indulge yourself!
